Think Happy Thoughts

Usually I don't have time to do art projects at school due to silly things like limited resources, studying (which I should be doing now), other distractions...

I use other creative outlets instead, like writing (words) and composing (music).  Sometimes I just don't have anything lovely to say, so I think of things to put in my Happy Book.  A Happy Book is a wonderful thing.  Writing in it will make you feel incredibly grateful and often nostalgic, and going back through it is just as fun, and very encouraging when you can't think of anything to be happy about.

Here are a few that merit posting:

#64 Sleeping in the car and sensing when you pull into your neighborhood/driveway
#73 Hearing the trains at night with the windows open
#74 Seeing the first fireflies of the summer
#141 The last run of the night/lift-ride back to the lodge after a great day of skiing/snowboarding.  That feeling of being tired and sad that it's time to leave, but very content as you listen to the lift cables squeak and see shadows of the chairs flying over the white, glowing slopes and patches of dark woods.

If you'd like a good way to recall little snippets of memories with sense-filled descriptions, or you want to practice having a more thankful, thoughtful mindset, or you just need to store up these gems for a rainy day, I'd encourage you to keep a Happy Book.

So Classy

This is about a month late, but oh well.

Here's my latest project - completed when I went home for Labor Day Weekend.  I free-handed it, so that's why her eyes are all wonky.

I think the world of Audrey Hepburn, which is why I'm probably going to paint over this whole thing black and do something else.  The good news is, I bought a projector at a yard sale for five bucks, which means this kind of thing will never happen again.  Don't get me wrong, I think that an artist who traces/copies is like a chef who uses box cakes...

But...

I do it anyway sometimes.

Only sometimes!!!
